The Life Skills: Basic Interpersonal Skills course is directed at young people ages 16-24. The course provides participants the opportunity to learn basic communication skills and behavior modifications to help them communicate and interact with family, romantic, coworkers and leadership, and strangers in most environments. This course is broken down into the following 6 lessons.

Effective communication

When a student completes this module, they will be able to:

  • Effective versus ineffective communication

  • Communication with people of differing personalities

 

Body Language

When a student completes this module, they will be able to:

  • Definition

  • Provide explanations and examples of different types of body language

 

Manners

When a student completes this module, they will understand:

  • Definition of Manners

  • Purpose of Employing Good Manners

  • Traditional American Manners

 

Offense

When a student completes this module, they will understand:

  • Definition of Offense and Personal Offense

  • Explanation of offending others

  • Explanation of being offended

 

Bullying

When a student completes this module, they will know:

  • Types of Bullying
  • Ways to Stop a Bully

 

Relationships & Dating

When a student completes this module, they will be able to:

  • Differences between men and women (perceptions)

  • Dating

  • Discussion and definition of healthy versus unhealthy relationships

  • The five love languages

*Note: Please be advised that this module uses traditional relationship models (ie. man and woman). All principles may be applied to both traditional and non-traditional relationships.
